3 Late-Summer Picnics We Love
Indian Summer continues on for a few more weeks of sunshine, and that means we’re planning as many outdoor activities as we can before the temps cool down. What’s more fun and refreshing than a late picnic? Besides being the perfect way to share a bottle of Bordeaux, picnics are perfect for groups big and small, intimate dates, and can pretty much happen anywhere you go.
Here are our favorite picnic settings, and the ideal Bordeaux wines to sip on!
Wine and Cheese picnic at the Park
After work or on the weekends, grab a group of friends and head to your favorite local park. All you really need is a large blanket and enough Bordeaux!
No need to overcomplicate the bites here: an easy, shareable, no cooking required spread totally fits the bill. A vine of ripe cherry tomatoes, your favorite hard cheeses (you’ll find Comté and Emmental on our plate), and some DIY shrimp cocktail make for a delicious assortment.
Pour a glass of Pessac-Léognan, boasting aromatic complexity from its unique barrel-aging technique. Better yet, these wines are ready to cork young, or aged up to 10 years. A solid investment that is ready to make your picnic this season, or years down the road.
Seaside white wine picnic
Take to the seaside with your better half for a day of fresh oysters and even fresher chilled Bordeaux! It’ll be a shucking good time, and the perfect way to wind down summer.
Visit the fish market before you head out of town and take your pick of the oysters du jour. Briney or creamy, you can’t go wrong! Whichever oysters you choose for your seaside escape, don’t leave town without the idea bottle of Entre-Deux-Mers.
Lively and fruity, a sip of Entre-Deux-Mers will bring unmatched freshness to a summer’s day. Drink young bottles, typically between 1-3 years, and always serve chilled.
Picnic by the lake with your favorite Bordeaux wine
Think back to childhood summers at your favorite lake house. There’s no reason why you can’t revisit lazy dockside days as an adult, plus, it’ll be even more fun with friends and your favorite wine!
Whether you share a picturesque Airbnb or take to the local docks for the day, keep it low key and delicious. Our favorite pairing? You guessed it: Pizza and a glass of Côtes de Bordeaux. White, fruity, and summery to a tee, it’s the perfect companion to a super shareable pizza pie.
Take things to the sweet side with a homemade blueberry and black cherry clafouti, paired best with a bottle of Graves. Take advantage of stone fruit season, and the summer weather, while they both last.
