Wine Apps We Love!
The most well-known wine app, Vivino boasts a database with over 1million wines. The app uses image recognition software, so all you have to do is snap a photo of the wine label using the app’s camera, and it will find the bottle of wine for you, along with its price details, country, producer and overall starred rating. It can now even recognise menu wine lists and there’s also the option to add your own tasting note, as well as personal rating to refer back to later.
Delectable also uses image recognition software, but unlike Vivino, it allows you to buy wine direct from the app! If you’ve found a wine you like for example, in a restaurant, you can purchase it on the app and get it delivered to your door within a few days. You can also follow curated wine lists, in addition to some of the world’s top sommeliers for wine recommendations.
This app has been adapted from the popular website, which allows you to search by wine. With over 7 million wines in its database, it is by far the most comprehensive list available. The app version of the website is equally extensive, but it also allows you to locate wine retailers, scan a menu wine list and read a label (through the image recognition software), and save your favourite wines, along with your personal rating.
Plonk
Created by the drinks supplier, Bibendum, Plonk also helps people discover more wine. Starting with an A-Z of wine varieties in the main menu, you can also search by country and wine styles, save your favourite wines or discover something new through the ‘new and interesting’ section. And if that isn’t enough, it also offers food pairings.
Search through Berry Bros & Rudd’s impressive database of wines with their mobile app. Discover wines, create an account and browse through their wine offers. You can also read their blog and watch videos.
A joint creation between CIVB, Aquitaine Region Tourism Committee and the Gironde Department Tourism committee, this app guides you around the Bordeaux region and its wines! Obviously a personal favourite.
